The restaurant
Right next to the Basilica of Our Lady of Thierenbach, on the Alsace Wine Route and the Way of Saint James. People come for the food and stay for the décor.
Nestled in the heart of the Rimbach valley, the restaurant of La Ferme des Moines stands right next to the Basilica of Our Lady of Thierenbach, whose origins date back to the 8th century. Benedictine monks from the nearby Murbach valley had built an oratory there, which over the centuries became a place of Marian pilgrimage.

The hall is air-conditioned and accessible to people with reduced mobility.
At the entrance, a sumptuously laid table set upside down sets the tone. The main hall houses a monumental 2.5-tonne wooden table seating up to 42 people, as well as a 19th-century fireplace for winter fires.
Around the restaurant, 163 tablets reproduce the Lord’s Prayer in 163 languages, inspired by the Carmel of Jerusalem.

Spread all around the hall, 16 automata depicting monks come to life every hour for a 6-minute show. They retrace the daily life of the monks and the welcome of pilgrims on the road to Santiago de Compostela.
Just behind the restaurant, the mini farm is home to dwarf goats including Ginette, billy goats including Hubert, and soft sheep, Bianca and Schwarzy. Children spend coffee time there.
A hundred metres from the hall, the basilica and its onion-domed bell tower have watched over the valley for centuries. Pilgrims of Compostela, passing visitors and Sunday families cross paths on the square before sitting down to eat.
